BC Professional Teaching Standards

Professional Standards for BC Educators

The Professional Standards for BC Educators reflect many of the values that are important to me as I continue to grow into my role as an educator. I appreciate that they focus not only on teaching, but also on relationships, respect, and understanding the importance of community.

Through my experiences working with children and youth, I have learned that building relationships is one of the most important parts of teaching. When students feel comfortable, respected, and supported, they are more confident in themselves and their learning. These experiences have shaped how I see my role in the classroom.

As an Indigenous student and future educator, I also connect to the importance of creating spaces where students feel seen and valued for who they are. This includes recognizing the role of culture, identity, and community in learning. The standards support this by encouraging educators to be thoughtful, respectful, and responsive to the needs of their students.

I see the Professional Standards as something I will continue to grow into over time. I am committed to learning, reflecting, and becoming an educator who supports students not just academically, but as whole individuals.
